A Job As a Web Developer

A web developer is a computer-programmer who specializes or is otherwise specifically involved in, the construction of World Wide Web (W3) applications with a client-server model. There are many web developers, and a wide variety of web developer jobs available. Web developers can be independent software vendors, hired by an established software vendor to build custom software, or become a full-time employee of a web-design or programming company and work from there.

Some web developers are responsible for building websites that contain advertisements. Others focus on programming the back-end of websites, while others build front-end web applications, such as web mail services or customer-facing interfaces such as forms. Still others develop back-end systems, such as data collection, accounting, or payment processing software. Still others may work on live web applications, such as email servers or shopping carts. Regardless of their specific areas of expertise, most web developers need to understand at least the fundamental software architecture of websites, so they can construct websites that are not only visually attractive but also fully functional and secure.

Web developers are an essential part of the information technology industry. Websites are the vital hub of modern business, and web designers to help businesses manage, promote, and search for information on their websites. Web developers are charged with the responsibility of crafting websites that will attract users, keep them on websites for long periods of time, and make websites that function properly. In essence, web designers are the interface between businesses and their users. A web designer's job requires a close eye to detail and a thorough understanding of various code formats and file systems.

Many web developers work independently. This type of independence enables them to construct websites that are unique and creative, and which can meet the requirements of particular clients. Many freelancers start their careers as freelance web designers, and some even work for large established companies. These individuals may be contracted to build one page websites and distributed on a per project basis. The majority of freelancers to work on smaller projects that require a more personal interaction between the client and the web developer.

Web developers working in larger offices generally operate as an integrated unit. This means that individual web designers monitor the functionality of the overall websites and can provide feedback to developers who are responsible for coding, implementing, and improving the websites. Web developers working independently are often responsible for coding the websites themselves, although they may have input in regards to certain elements of the website.

Developers who work on a contract basis to earn more money than those who work on a freelance basis. In addition to compensation from direct clients, web developers also receive a portion of the profits generated by the company that employs them. Freelance developers may be paid by the hour, project-by-project, or a combination of both. Contract developers usually receive an hourly rate based upon their level of experience and billing cycles.
